Command Strategies and Tactics for Marine Emergencies: CSTME was developed in collaboration with our working partners at Maine Maritime Academy - Office of Continuing Education and in cooperation with the Maine Emergency Management Agency. Our CSTME course provides emergency responders, emergency management officials and other key stakeholders operating within the maritime domain with critical information on how to effectively respond to marine emergencies including: vessel and marine terminal fires, hazardous materials incidents, weather emergencies, terrorist incidents, cruise vessel emergencies and other all-hazards marine emergencies.
The primary focus is upon effective command, control and coordination of a multi-jurisdictional, multi-agency response within a NIMS based Incident Command System. Also, best practices and methodologies utilizing the most effective principles of Unified Command. Critical strategic decision making and effective tactics that must be applied in a progressive and coordinated way by municipal fire services, US Coast Guard, law enforcement, emergency management and marine industry stakeholders when responding to critical marine incidents.
This valuable two-day course introduces participants to the common and unexpected events that can and will occur as a result of:
- Fires on vessels and at marine terminals
- Natural disasters and weather emergencies
- Hazardous materials releases
- Collisions and groundings
- Loss of steering and propulsion
- Mass casualty incidents
- Vessel structural failure and foundering
- Acts of terrorism and piracy
CSTME was developed in cooperation with Maine Maritime Academy and the Maine Emergency Management Agency. Successful participants in this course will be awarded two Continuing Education credits from Maine Maritime Academy - Office of Continuing Education.
